Description
The name of this work of art is Invasion. It is woven with a loom and in shape it is almost square, 98 cm x 96 cm. It is woven into a warp dyed with lupine leaves and flowers. Surplus yarns from old weaving projects have been used as weft. The year of completion is 2019.
There is a struggle for life and death in the meadow. Every summer, more and more roadsides are full of lupine flowers. The lupine army set off from the yard of the deserted house can be seen conquering more living space for itself. The invasion has been inspired by the victory of lupines in summer meadows and wastelands.
The invasion was born lightly in the summer, absorbing the atmosphere of a warm July summer day. I returned to plant dyeing with this work. It was satisfying to be able to collect blooms to put into a dyeing pot, even though the project made only a small notch in the number of unwanted lupines.
As I wove, I combined picking, summer and winter weave, plain weave and twill. I mixed the surplus yarns of different weaving projects to get the colors that I wanted for the weft. Usually I make an exact sketch for the work to be woven, which runs under the work when weaving, but for this work I decided to leave it out as well and followed as the work progressed only about a postcard-sized sketch. It was exiting and rewarding.
